Lane Hudson: A Bush veto would Avoid Accountability and Harm the Troops

( General )

[The Huffington Post | Raw Feed]

Both Houses of Congress have passed an emergency supplemental appropriations bill that contains benchmarks and goals for progress in Iraq as well as a timetable for redeployment of American troops in Iraq. This is about accountability that has so far been lacking in the Bush administration’s execution of the Iraq War.

George Bush’s threat to veto this accountability is embarrassing. It sends a message to the world that his policy is to sustain a failed war policy that is further increasing instability in the region. …

Bloomberg [Hearts] New York’s Pedicabs

( General )

[Gothamist] With a flourish of his mighty veto pen and perhaps a nod to his entrepreneurial beginnings, Mayor Bloomberg sent a proposed law that would have limited the number of pedicabs in New York back to the City Council.
The move is certain to provoke a showdown with the City Council, which passed the bill last month. Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, who has had a largely cordial relationship with the Bloomberg administration, promised to push the Council to override the mayor’s action. …

Teams are working on specific things; giving guys looks who won’t even be on the team, so essentially, the scores are meaningless. This blog is over Spring Training, get the season started.

What this blog is not over, though, is the fact that the Angels signed Scot Shields to a three-year, $14.6 million contract extension. …

Mao Rubai, chairman of the Environmental and Resources Protection Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), said the draft law will improve resource efficiency, and is expected to pass at the end of the year. The handling of eWaste is included in the framework, of which China takes about 70 percent of the world’s ’supply’. …

[CodeBetter.Com] Sitting here on Saturday morning with a nice cup of Kona coffee. There just is no better coffee in the world. Strong but deceivingly smooth. I really miss our former annual trips to the Big Island that we used to take with my Father-In-Law and family before he got ill. We used to go up in the hills and buy direct from the growers. Umm, nothing better. …
